    6 Day Encaustic Retreat with Kelly Milukas & Dietlind Vander Schaaf

    This 6 day artist retreat will deepen your practice through an exploration of art making, design thinking, collage, upcycling, art and devotion, joy and mindfulness. In this immersive retreat, in the hidden coastal-farm communities of Tiverton and Little Compton, Rhode Island, Kelly Milukas and Dietlind Vander Schaaf will guide you building both a unique encaustic shrine and a dimensional totem. A special encaustic focus on dimensional surface treatments; collage, gilding, casting and embedding objects in wax; image transfer; creating texture; color mixing; mark making; layering; and working with other compatible painting and drawing mediums, we will explore the way art can honor happenings of the past, mark change/transition, ignite transformation, and serve as an extension of mindfulness practice.

    The retreat includes 1:1 time with 2 R&F Core Instructors, a live sound bath, daily yoga sessions, enjoyment of the meditation garden; a heated salt water pool; and delicious healthy meals. Sunday kicks off with an opening celebration, studio breakfasts daily, 5 gourmet lunches, snacks & coffees, teas, beverages, and 2 group dinners.  *See the vast amount of curated materials included below.*

    UNLOCKING CREATIVE POTENTIAL THROUGH OIL AND COLDWAX with Leslie Miller March 6-9 2025


    Cold wax painting is different. She is a romantic medium. In developed work she dances well with acrylic, collage, oil, pastel, and sculpture. She can be many things to many partners. She is about losing and finding, revealing and building up, she is about creating history, distance, obfuscation and also clarity.

    Embark on a journey of artistic exploration into the realms of creativity and self-expression through an exploration of CWM. Leslie Miller is a kind and talented instructor, ready to help you find your own path into CWM. Through engaging exercises with Leslie the individual spark within each artist will be ignited!

    By carefully examining the core elements of art, participants will embark on a transformative artistic journey, producing a series of 6 to 8 paintings that carry their own voice and expression. This workshop will also hone in on the unique qualities and techniques employed in Leslies wonderful oil and cold wax paintings, providing practical knowledge and a platform for artists to expand their creative horizons.

    Students Will:

    Learn multiple techniques and processes specific to oil and cold wax medium that you have not seen before

    Explore & Experiment – try everything!

    Get out of our comfort zone – let loose and play, use non-dominant hand etc.

    Feel comfortable creating a cohesive series of work (6-8 pieces with a consistent feeling.

    2-Day Intensive Encaustic Workshop 

    Participants will learn about encaustic history, safety, surfaces, and fusing. In this comprehensive 2-day workshop we will be exploring a variety of techniques such as incising, layering, pigment sticks, mark-making, mixed media collage, mono-printing, and incorporating photos. Designed for beginners and advanced, we will work together to focus on taking your encaustic creativities to a new level!

    The Enso Circle is an international online artist residency where artists in residence connect and collaborate from their studios worldwide, sharing their creative journeys and supporting each other across borders.

    After five years of planning, Lyn Belisle and Michelle Belto created the Enso Circle. Engaging and acclaimed from its first term, we are opening our tenth term for new Residents in 2025. We look forward to welcoming you!

    We invite interested artists to our website to view the final exhibition catalogs, read what our past residents have said, and get more information about what we offer in this three-month artist residency. 

    Applications close on February 24. Orientation begins the first week of March, and the term ends in early June.

    Pattern is an underlying structure that organizes surfaces or structures in a consistent, regular manner.

    Description: This workshop offers the opportunity to explore in detail patterns, rhythm and symmetry. It can help our personal narratives, emotional responses and the creative art making processes. Pattern is a combination of elements that are repeated, symmetry in art is when the elements of a painting balance each other out and rhythm involves using intervals or spaces between elements to give the user an impression of flow or movement.

    Cost $495.00 Tax  and materials included

    On the first day we will cover the equipment, tools, materials, safety, color sticks application and paper lifting techniques and the advantages of masking, plus the monotype finishes.

    The second day is all about patterns, rhythm and symmetry and how we as artist can use or arrange these elements in a painting to create harmony and unity which is this workshop’s objective.

    Theoretical ideas behind abstract artThe idea, derived from the ancient Greek philosopher Plato, that the highest form of beauty lies not in the forms of the real world but in geometry, is also used in discussion of abstract art, as is the idea that abstract art, since it does not represent the material world, can be seen to represent the spiritual.

    Description: This workshop offers the opportunity to immerse in the world of Abstract Art Painting through colors, shapes and forms while doing  encaustic monotypes, which is easy, fast and lots of fun and allows for the exploration of personal  narratives, emotional responses and the creative art making processes.

    Cost $495.00, Tax and materials included

    On the first day we will cover the equipment, tools, materials, safety, color sticks application and paper lifting techniques, the advantages of masking plus the monotype finishes.

    On day two we will dive into geometry, color, shapes, forms, negative space, contrast and composition. 

    Group or personal art critiques is offered identifying areas of opportunities as well as strengths.

    Description: 

    This workshop is about a better understanding and implementation of  simplicity and negative space in art. Simplicity is the philosophy and practice of creating only what is necessary within a work of art and Negative space is the empty space around or between the subject of an image.

    On the first day we will cover the equipment, tools, materials, safety, color sticks application techniques, paper lifting, the advantages of masking as well as the monotype finishes.

    On day two the workshop focus is on Simplicity or the artist intentionality with the content of their work.  Furthermore, the use Negative Space to convey a sense oscale and a sense of inclusion or exclusion. This encaustic monotype painting workshop  will explore personal  narratives, emotional responses and the creative art making processes through simplicity and negative space.
